CHENNAI: A team of history enthusiasts has identified three pre-historic menhirs, dating between 1500 BC and 500 BC, on a private land in Erode district.
One menhir was found at Thindal, while the other two were at Anjur near Muthur.
Menhirs are prehistoric stones commonly found near the ancient burial sites or chambers.
The menhir located in Thindal is 14-foot-tall and five-foot wide. No one in the locality knowns the significance of these prehistoric pieces of art.
We have documented all the three menhirs and we will inform the state archaeology department soon,” she said.
